After a number of weeks working as an artist in residence, I entered the studio again and wanted to create a painting that captured the end of a day off Exmouth Beach after a storm had passed. The tranquillity of the evening is settling once again and the sea is calming after the down pours have passed. In the painting I have tried to capture the movement of water and sky and the relationship between them. All my painting titles are taken from the poems of Dylan Thomas, my personal hero.
Nic is the Art Consultant for SWAc and leads their art workshops in schools. He moved to Exmouth in 1987 from Neath in South Wales to study Primary Art Education at Rolle College and quickly fell in love with the sea and surrounding areas. On the most dramatic of days, Nic can be found off Exmouth beach or exploring the Devon hills with his lurcher Betty. These are the times that inspire him the most and provide the influence for his dramatic work which captures the tone and movement of both sea and land.
His work is predominantly uses acrylic on canvas and he uses an intense process which involves layering of paint to create works with great atmosphere.
As well as working as an artist, Nic runs 'Nic George Art' which is an art consultancy that supports and trains teachers in the visual arts in primary schools, runs art projects in schools and communities, leads initial teacher training in art and works as an artist in residence.
